About Code Club
Code Club is a global network of volunteer-led coding clubs for young people ages 8-13. Volunteering means committing one hour per week for a school term to help lead a coding class, using free structured lessons provided by Code Club Australia.
You don't need prior coding experience—Code Club provides training, project guides, and resources to make teaching fun and easy. It's a flexible way to inspire digital skills, helping kids create games, animations, and websites in a supportive environment.
My Role
Position: Code Club Facilitator Duration: 3 June 2025 – 8 July 2025 Hours: 12 hours (6 sessions × 2 hours each: 1 hour training + 1 hour preparation)

What I Did
I co-facilitated a 6-week Python Code Club at Dundas Library, organized through the UTS SOUL Program. Alongside another volunteer, I led weekly coding sessions for a student using the Code Club curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Lesson Preparation: Preparing and reviewing weekly modules and lesson content
- Teaching: Delivering beginner-friendly Python tutorials
- Hands-on Projects: Guiding students through coding projects step-by-step
- Simplifying Concepts: Breaking down technical ideas into simple, relatable explanations
- Supportive Environment: Creating a positive and encouraging learning space
- Coordination: Working with co-volunteer to ensure smooth lesson flow
Reflections & Learnings
What I Learned
This experience helped me improve my communication, patience, and ability to explain technical concepts in simple ways. It also showed me the value of consistency and adaptability, especially when faced with low attendance.
It strengthened my ability to break down technical ideas into simple, relatable explanations. The program taught me adaptability and patience, particularly when working with varied attendance and individual learning pace.
Looking Forward
This experience reinforced my passion for mentoring and education, and gave me confidence to take up similar roles in the future. Code Club was an incredibly meaningful experience, and I look forward to contributing to similar STEM education initiatives.
